What
motorcycles does it fit?
This system can be adapted to a wide range of motorcycles and cars:
Engineering facilities required:
The hall-effect trigger requires mounting to a baseplate or bracket (not supplied). In some cases the original contact-breaker plate can be used. Four 3mm drill holes (or M3 tapped) are required, plus at least two more holes for a cable tie to secure the wires to the plate.
A mild steel rotor (not supplied) must be made with machined slots or teeth. In some cases the points cam may used to trigger the ignition. The rotor must pass over the face of the hall-effect trigger.
Ignition coils required (12 volt electrics):
original points type ignition coil(s) - but not cdi or digital ignition type.
For a single cylinder use one 12 volt ignition coil with a primary resistance of 3 to 4.5 ohms.
For a twin cylinder use two 6 volt coils connected in series or one 12 volt dual output type with a primary resistance of 3 to 4.5 ohms.
For a triple use three 4 volt coils with a primary resistance of 1 to 1.5 ohms each.
Ignition coils required (6 volt electrics):
original points type ignition coil(s) - but not cdi or digital ignition type.
For a single cylinder use one 6 volt ignition coil with a primary resistance of 1.5 to 2.5 ohms.
For
a twin cylinder use two 3 volt coils connected in series or one 6 volt
dual output type with a primary resistance of 1.5 to 2.5 ohms.
For a triple use three coils with a primary resistance of 0.5 to 0.8 ohms each.
The Altair ignition replaces point(s) & condenser(s).
The result is easier starting, smoother running and less
maintenance.
